Hello -
The turnout for the tree planting this past Saturday was light -
perhaps not surprising giving the time of year and the short notice.
A couple of members had to cancel at the the last minute, but we still
managed to have at least a token turnout. I was there, although even
I had to leave a bit early. Fortunately John Hopkins and his son
Andrew were there to represent both DMTU and the CRC (John is a CRC
board member). We joined Anne Murphy and 3 other CRC volunteers.
Together, we planted an additional 30 trees and caged a number of
trees which were previously planted. I believe this brings the total
number of trees planted this year to a whopping total of 220. This is
in addition to the 130 (?) trees that were planted last year. This
would not have been possible without the significant efforts of Anne
Murphy, the CRC, and a large number of other volunteers and supporters
recruited/coordinated by Anne and the CRC.
Since the trees protected by cages seem to be thriving relative to
those that are in tubes, we would like to replace all of the tubes
with cages. The only tubes that remain are on the opposite side of
the creek (from the parking lot), so we are hoping that wader-owning
DMTU volunteers will be able to complete that work. We do not have a
date yet, but it probably won't be until at least mid-July. More
details about the upcoming project will be sent as soon as they become
available.
